I was walking to work after a morning writing session a few days ago and it struck me - I actually love writing.
I know that might sound strange coming from the author of a creative writing blog. But a few months ago I started to question whether there was a place for writing in my life and more importantly - whether I actually wanted to be a writer.
I write for my day job as a marketing manager and love it, but writing creatively is a completely different process.
When I was talking about writing with a co-worker that same day I explained that when I write for business I'm very structured and lean in my approach (particularly because I mostly write for on-line mediums). Yet when it comes to writing creatively I'm free and open in the way I approach the page.
The process of 're-loving' writing didn't come about before I started writing again. I simply started writing and discovered it.
I think a good indication of whether you love something is if the activity energises or drains you. For me, writing gives me the same euphoric feeling as swimming 20 laps at my local pool or taking a morning yoga class, so it's earned a place in my life.
How about you? Was there a moment when you realised that you love writing?

Great post Susan. I find that once I get past the initial resistance, that I too love writing and the opportunity to express myself in the world in a way that can make a positive contribution.
Thank you for helping be aware of it's value to me.
Cheers,
Dean Jacobs

Thanks Dean. It's great to hear other people value writing in such a strong way.
